Connecticut River, Woodsville, New Hampshire 10/15/21

Kayaking the Connecticut River in Woodsville, New Hampshire, from the boat launch up to the narrows. Nice look at the Woodsville Covered Bridge.

Ricker Pond Kayaking, Groton, Vermont 10/11/21 (fall foliage edition)

Ricker Pond is the first body of water you will come to as you head north into the Groton State Forest. This a great spot to kayak, particularly during peak foliage (which this was). Scroll down for the video. (Feel free to use these images – a link back to this site would be appreciated. Thanks!)

Foliage on Kettle Pond, Groton, Vermont 10/8/21 – kayaking

The past few years I’ve made it a point to try and hit Kettle Pond during fall foliage. As you can see, it’s just amazing to either kayak on or walk around (we’ll be doing that a bit later in the season). Check out the gallery of stills below, or the complete video.

Lake Willoughby, Westmore, Vermont (10/7/21) – peak foliage!

Peak foliage kayaking on Vermont’s Lake Willoughby. Great day on a great lake.

Foliage from Wright’s Mountain, Bradford, Vermont (10/6/21)

Wright’s Mountain offers a short 1.6 mile out and back hike with a great overlook of the valley. Elevation here is 360 ft. There were families at the summit, so I killed the video just before reaching it. The final sweep of the valley isn’t great (note to me next time: remove the camera from the harness and sweep by hand), but check out the stills for how impressive the view is, particularly during foliage.

Kayaking on Ticklenaked Pond, Ryegate, Vermont (10/4/21)

Yes, that says Ticklenaked. I think the locals mangled the Native American name for the pond back in the day, so now we have one of the more interesting body of water names in the country.

So, this was shot later in the day, and it was pretty overcast. We are starting to get some decent coloring for foliage, but you really can’t see it much here. A heron or two think I was chasing them a bit (my take: we were just going the same direction), and I angered a couple of geese, but not much moving around out there as the season shuts down. And no Vermont video is complete without a chainsaw and gunshots in the background. 🙂

Franconia Notch Bike Trail, Lincoln/Franconia, 9/19/21

Well, the weather was certainly better than the last time I tried this. Again, we started out at The Basin and headed north. The goal here was either Profile Lake or Echo Lake, but I think we got around halfway between Franconia Notch State Park and Profile before the cam battery died. Next time… 🙂

Kayaking on Lake Armington, Piermont, New Hampshire (9/17/21)

A short kayak paddle on Lake Armington in Piermont, NH. While there were a couple of loons about, little other wildlife. It’s starting to feel like fall out there, and the leaves are just starting to get a bit of color.

Kinder Memorial Forest Castello Trail, Woodsville, New Hampshire 9/15/21

A mellow, 1.8 mile low-traffic trail that is worth checking out. A bit surprising considering that the high point is a power corridor, but it is actually a nice, easy hike. There are two loops, and a fair amount of info regarding trees, etc. along the way.

Kayaking on the Waits River, Bradford, Vermont 9/13/21

Kayaking the “affluence” in Bradford, Vermont. It’s basically where the Waits River meets the Connecticut River. Great location for bird watching in the summer, with ducks, heron. I’ve even seen a deer here midday (I have a picture somewhere, will upload it eventually). Mid-September is a bit late in the season, but still a great kayak with channels and a nice Hitchcock moment about halfway through.
